William R. Johnson (Bill) Obituary

Akwesasne, New York - AKWESASNE - William Robert Johnson, 74, of Aggie Lane, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Upstate University Hospital after a lengthy illness.


William, a member of he the Morongo Tribe, was born December 3, 1951 in Syracuse, the son of the late Robert M. and Eillen A. (Saubel) Johnson. He attended schools on the Onondaga Nation and graduated from Lafayette High School. He later took courses in Albany.


William was an electrician with IBEW Local 43 in Syracuse until his disability retirement in 2000. He was also an avid lacrosse player, playing with Albany State and OAC. He was a follower of 420 and an avid sports fan following Buffalo, Syracuse, and the Lakers. He loved traveling the country with his wife, Mary and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an all-around incredible, generous, and caring man.


William is survived by his wife, Mary Burk; his children, July Johnson, Michelle Burk-Thomas, Jacob Burk, Nicole Burk, Zachary Ryan, William Burk-Johnson (Zoe Bonaparte), Jude Burk-Johnson (Nate Jaramillo); his grandchildren, Hunter Burk, Tia Burk, Kenyon Shenandoah, Stevie Thomas, Conway Johnson, Kinley Barnes, Gordon Burk, Kenna Barnes, Baby William Johnson, Nakoa Johnson Jaramillo, Eva Johnson, and Darryl Davis; and his stepchildren, Martin Coon and Tiffany Lopez and their children, Dakota Coon, Santana Vessley, Corie Medina, and Kyle Carranza.


He is also survived by his sisters, Roberta "Dee" Johnson and Janice "Noose" Waters; his best friends, Mike Ryan, Honeybee, and Tina Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Robert Burk-Johnson; and his siblings, Cynthia Hill, Leila Chubb, Susan Johnson, and Joseph Johnson.


Friends may call at his home, 13 Aggie Lane, Akwesasne beginning at 7:00 PM Monday until the time of the service on Wednesday at 12:00 NOON. Burial will follow in the family cemetery.
